STOP SLEEPING ON YOURSELF! A 2 minute Guide on How to Show up For Yourself
Updated: Dec 18, 2019
With Sagittarius Season came the mantra, “Do not Sleep on Yourself!” It must have come from one of the Spiritual pages I follow on Instagram but I definitely agree. The energy this month has charged me up and I feel compelled to plant seeds for a prosperous 2020. Every morning I wake up and remind myself that I will not sleep on myself and I’m telling you for free that neither should you.
These are the things I have been doing daily to show up for myself;
1. Put yourself in spaces that build you up
I cannot stress this enough. You need to be in spaces where you feel like you are being built up, spaces where you feel like if you do not reach for your highest potential it’ll be a disservice to yourself. Spaces where people call you out for lousy behavior.
It’s a disservice to yourself when you to continue to put yourself in spaces where you are not getting the best.
2. Be your own advocate.
Show up for yourself. Express yourself in your dressing, speak well about yourself. Stop being self-deprecating for the sake of humor.
You are the only person who can represent yourself well, you need to start acting like you’re being paid billions to represent yourself.
3. Create and respect your boundaries.
If there is a big lesson I have learnt in 2018 and 2019, it is that I need to establish boundaries and respect them. Passive aggression is out, feeling sorry for yourself is out, not saying what you mean because you are avoiding possible conflict is out.
Name your limits and communicate them effectively.
4. Add more joy into your life.
Joy (Noun): A feeling of great pleasure and happiness
Do more things that bring you joy. Release aspects of your life that aren’t joyful. Follow more meme pages that make you laugh, do charity work, create, paint, write, sing, read, dance, join organizations whose cause you agree with.
Do more things that make you think, “Damn, it’s a great time to be alive!”
Take practical steps to be a better person. Is there a talent you have that you would like to become better at? Start taking lessons. Is there a passion project you would like to follow through with? Launch it! Are there goals you would like to achieve? Make plans to achieve them!
Ensure that when you look back on your life, you were always making steps.
